Keeping Your Cool Using The Madam Geneva & Gent Method

Keeping Cool 2.jpg

July saw the hottest day of the year we’ve had on record and we think there is no finer - or more british - way to beat the heat than to enjoy a delicious, and obviously cooling, gin and tonic.

So we thought we would share our way of creating the perfect G&T.

First things first. The key word you need to remember when preparing your gin & tonic is temperature.

Everything needs to be chilled.

The gin, the tonic, the ice (obviously) and even the glass that you serve it in. Yes, whatever vessel carries your g&t, be it a Collins or a Copa, if you can chill it in a fridge or even better in a freezer before preparation begins the better your drink will be.

Ok, so now we’ve got that bit sorted lets get onto concocting the drink.

Step one - Fill your glass with ice. To the top. Remember the drink needs to be as chilled as possible so the more ice the better.

Step two - Add your garnish. Choose whatever it you want, some orange peel, a sprig of your favourite herb, a wedge of grapefruit, some pepper corns or frozen summer berries. Just make sure that whatever you wish to add compliments the gin you’re about to use. Look to the botanicals of your gin and see what they are if you’re not sure.

Step three - Measure 50ml of your favourite London Dry gin and pour into the glass...if you’re feeling brave, miss out the measure and just free pour until your glass (with ice) is 1/3 full of gin

Step four - Fill the rest of your glass with chilled tonic. Again match your choice of tonic to the gin you are going to enjoy.

Step five - Bottoms up!

Et voila!

We know it sounds simple but a good gin and tonic should be...leave the fancy stuff to the cocktails.

So next time feeling a little bit hot under the collar just imagine that feeling later at the end of the day when you can enjoy a perfectly chilled gin & tonic.

We bet you feel better already!
